Tobago Cycling Classic

The Tobago International Cycling Classic (also: Tour of Tobago ) is a one-day cycling race, which takes place annually on the Caribbean island of Tobago. The competition will be held in October and heard in the category 1.2 to UCI America Tour since 2011. The Cycling Classic is part of a week-long cycling and tourism festivals. Record winner is the locals Emile Abraham, who was able to celebrate in a row from 2001, three victories. The only German winner so far is Andrew Hening, who was successful in 2007. In 2011, the competition was won by the Austrians Riccardo Zoidl.

Was first staged the race in 1986 to provide in addition to Tobago on popular sports such as football and athletics and cycling a platform. At times, the Tobago Cycling Classic was a five-day stage race, after all it was but again aligned as one-day races. Since 2000, the race is also open to international participants; it participated in the sequence as, for example, athletes from Germany or Austria. 2011 finally the Tobago Cycling Classic was included in the international racing calendar of the cycling world governing body UCI and kicks off the UCI America Tour in 2012. At the start of professionals are equally as amateur racers.

The 112 km route of the race includes some short but very steep slopes up to 20 percent. Parts of the road guide you through the rainforest on the island, and force the high temperatures the participants to increased fluid intake.
