Tobias Preisig

Tobias Preisig ( born September 18, 1981 in Zurich ) is a Swiss violinist and composer. He lives in Zurich.

Life and work

Preisig was recorded with 17 years as first violinist at the Swiss Jazz School in Berne. He has performed with the Swiss Youth Jazz Orchestra before he continued his musical studies at the New School in New York. After a European tour with the European Youth Jazz Orchestra 2003, he graduated in 2004 to 2007 studied classical violin at the Zurich University of the Arts. Then appearances and collaborations with, among others followed George Gruntz, Luciano Biondini, Thomas Demenga, Daniel Schnyder and concerts at the Montreux Jazz Festival (2008) and at the Jazz Festival Willisau. By 2012 he was a member of the Kaleidoscope String Quartet. As a guest of the label TCB he took in 2009 an album with George Gruntz and David Liebman on. In addition to his quartet Preisig was also involved in tour with the new band of Dieter Meier and formed with the Swiss singer Christian Zehnder a duet.

Tobias Preisig Quartet

The quartet with pianist Stefan Aeby, bassist and drummer André Pousaz Michi Stulz was founded in 2009. Since then, the band has released two albums: 2012 In Transit ( Traumton ) and previously Flowing Mood ( ObliqSound, 2010). The repertoire of the albums was presented in concerts in Switzerland, Germany and France, about the Cully Jazz Festival, the Jazz Festival Schaffhausen and Basel Off Beat. After the release of their second album In Transit, the quartet toured Germany, Austria, Switzerland, as well as Japan and China where the tour finally ended at the Jazz Festival in Shanghai.

Prizes and awards

Preisig was awarded Generations ( Frauenfeld ) 1998. He received in 2005 for a solo project the cultural price of the canton of Appenzell and 2011, the Culture Prize of the city of Zurich. 2013 Tobias Preisig quartet with the " High Priority Jazz Promotion", the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia was considered.
