Toblacher See

The Lake Toblach (Italian Lago di Dobbiaco ) is a small, rugged originally alpine lake, located in the Val Pusteria in 1259 m altitude in the South Tyrolean community Dobbiaco. The Rienz is its inflow and outflow. The lake has a circumference of about 4.5 kilometers, its volume is estimated at 286,000 cubic meters. It is located in the nature park Fanes -Senes- Prague.

The lake was formed in ancient times due to numerous landslides, which broke away from the mountains on the western shore of the lake.

Between 1983 and 1987 work on Resystematisierung of the lake were carried out, especially sediment was removed, mainly in the southern part of the basin. For continuous care of the lake, the vegetation is blended and flooded vegetation removed.

On the lake you can do in the warm season tours on a boat or pedalo. In the cold season, however, when the lake is completely frozen, you can instead operate or skating and curling.

Near the lake there is a campground and some restaurants.

Nature trail

Around the lake is a nature trail was created in the spring of 2000. Along the route, which runs along the lake shore, eleven different information boards are placed over the surrounding lake nature. The boards provide detailed information about the flora, fauna and geomorphology of the area near the lake. The walk to the trail is approximately two hours.

Special

Around the lake there are five Italian bunkers that were built in 1939 by order of Benito Mussolini in order to protect the Italian border. These structures are part of the Alpine Wall in South Tyrol, accurate to lock Landro North.
