Tom Pettitt

Thomas " Tom" Pettitt ( born December 19, 1859 in Beckenham, Greater London, United Kingdom, † October 17, 1946 in Newport, Rhode Iceland, United States) was a British Jeu -de- Paume player.

Biography

Pettitt emigrated at the age of seventeen years from to Boston and taught in the " Boston Tennis & Racquet Club" the Jeu de Paume, the predecessor of the modern sport of tennis. In 1885 he called for George Lambert out, won the title and defended it in 1890. In 1929 he finished his coaching and teaching, and died 1946. 1982 was posthumous induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
