Tomás de Anchorena

Tomás Manuel de Anchorena ( born November 29, 1783 in Buenos Aires, † April 29, 1847 ) was an Argentine lawyer and statesman. He was a deputy to the Congress of Tucumán, where the Independence of Argentina was declared on July 9, 1816.

Anchorena was born in Buenos Aires and studied at the Real Colegio de San Carlos, 1807 he received his doctorate in law at the Universidad de Charcas. After his return to Buenos Aires in 1810, he took part in the meeting in the Cabildo, where the independence of Buenos Aires from Spain was declared.

He worked as a secretary for Manuel Belgrano in 1815 and elected delegates from the city of Buenos Aires in the Congress of Tucumán, where he was very active and voted for the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. Subsequently, he became politically active in the Province of Buenos Aires and Argentine Foreign Minister was during the first term of Juan Manuel de Rosas.
