Tomas Maier

Tomas Maier ( born 1957 as Thomas Maier in Pforzheim ) is a German fashion designer. He works in New York for his own fashion label and the Italian fashion house Bottega Veneta.

He grew up as the son of an architect in the Black Forest, attended a Waldorf school and went at age 19 to study in Paris Chambre Syndicale de la at the Haute Couture. He then worked as a freelancer, among others, for Sonia Rykiel, Révillon and Hermès, had up to five different clients simultaneously.

With 40 years he went to Miami, Florida and began to design swimwear and sell. Since 2001 he has worked for Bottega Veneta, which was then taken over by Gucci. He designs for this brand apart from the bags and furniture, watches, perfume, jewelery and porcelain. When the jewels he collaborates with goldsmiths his hometown in China with the Royal Porcelain Manufactory ( KPM ). At the time, he designed six collections per year. He is now regarded as the most important German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld.

One of his decisions was to dispense with Bottega Veneta highly visible labels.
