Bottega Veneta

Bottega Veneta is an Italian luxury label, which is known for its leather accessories. Founded in 1966, the company was acquired in 2001 by Gucci, now part of the French multinational group PPR. Bottega Veneta is headquartered in Vicenza, in the Veneto region in northeastern Italy.

History

Bottega Veneta was founded in 1966 by Michele Taddei and Renzo Zengiaro. The name Bottega Veneta means " Venetian atelier ". The company started with the artisanal production of leather goods. The craftsmen of the company developed a unique Lederflechttechnik, called intrecciato, which is a symbol of the brand. Thanks to the high-quality craftsmanship and the appeal of its discreet no logo designs the reputation of the Bottega Veneta grew over time. In the 1970s the company began advertising the company slogan: "When your own initials are enough". In the early 1980s, Bottega Veneta had become a favorite of the international jet set. Andy Warhol, who was making its Christmas shopping in the New York boutique, turned in the 1980s, a short film for the company.

Renzo Zengiaro left the Bottega Veneta in the late 1970s. Michele Taddei resigned a few years later. Vittorio and Laura Moltedo (Laura was previously married to Taddei ) moved from New York to Vicenza, to lead the company. Over the years, the success of the company declined. In the early 1990s, the brand had abandoned their neutral attitude and embarked on a more trend-oriented fashion area.

The latest chapter in the history of Bottega Veneta began in February 2001 when the company was acquired by the Gucci Group. Creative Director Tomas Maier climbed in June of the same year and presented in the autumn of his first collection for spring-summer 2002. The German Maier, whose CV encloses positions at Sonia Rykiel and Hermès, went off to return the brand to its original identity. He removed visible Logoi of the brand's products, highlighted in particular the striking Intrecciato - braiding and brought the focus of the company back to the handicraft production. Since that time, Bottega Veneta has supplemented the collection with fine jewelry, eyewear, home fragrance products and furniture, as it continues to offer a selection of handbags, shoes, small leather goods, luggage, home furnishings and gift items. Bottega Veneta presented its first ready -to-wear fashion show for ladies in February 2005 and its first men's fashion show in June 2006. Ready - to-wear fashion shows and furniture presentations are held today in the company premises in Milan.

Given the importance of craftsmanship and the diminishing number of leather processing masters in Italy, Bottega Veneta opened the Scuola della Pelletteria, a school to train and support future generations of leather craftsmen in the summer of 2006.
