Tomás Pedro Barbosa da Silva Nunes

Tomás Pedro Barbosa da Silva Nunes ( born December 3, 1942 in Lisbon, † September 1, 2010 ) was a Portuguese theologian and Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in the Patriarchate of Lisbon.

Life

Tomás Pedro Barbosa da Silva Nunes studied Geophysics at the Faculty of Science, University of Lisbon and theology at the Theological Faculty of the Catholic University, and he later graduated from a degree in "Master of Science in Education", specializing in administration and school management. Barbosa da Silva Nunes received on 4 November 1973, and was ordained priest incardinated in the Patriarchate of Lisbon. It was founded in 1977 deputy head of Lisbon 's Catholic Workers League ( LOC) and was nine years chaplain of the Juventude Operária Católica ( JOC ). From 1981 to 1998 he was engaged in diocesan leadership. He became director of the diocesan Secretariat for Religious Education 1989. He taught theology at the Theological Faculty of the Catholic University of Portugal.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Titular Bishop of Elvas 1998 and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the Patriarchate of Lisbon. He received his episcopal consecration on 17 May 1998 in the Church of Our Lady of Fatima in Lisbon, the Archbishop and Patriarch of Lisbon, José da Cruz Policarpo; Co-consecrators were Albino Mamede Cleto of the bishop, coadjutor in Coimbra, and António dos Reis Rodrigues, former auxiliary bishop of Lisbon.

Barbosa da Silva Nunes was a member of the Portuguese Episcopal Conference. 1999 was elected secretary of the Portuguese Episcopal Conference, re-elected in 2002. He was vicar general and moderator since 2005 the Curia, Executive Board Member of the Social Pastoral in Portugal and President of the Episcopal Commission for Christian education.
