Tommy Boy Entertainment

Tommy Boy Entertainment (formerly Tommy Boy Records ) is an American music label, which is mainly engaged in the genres Hip -hop and electronica. The label was founded in 1981 by Tom Silverman, after it is named.

History

Silverman had since 1978 brought out the News magazine disco and then set up with a loan from his parents the label as a side project. Warner Bros. Records in 1985 increased with 50 % in a Tommy Boy. In 1990, the label was taken over completely. Silverman was vice president at Warner. Warner allowed Tommy Boy next to its own distribution channel to choose independent paths, if this seemed opportune. Silverman bought back in 1995 50 % of the shares after the affair due to C. Delores Tucker many hip - hop artists were censored at Warner.
