Tony Gatlif
Tony Gatlif ( born September 10, 1948 in Algiers, Algeria as Michel Dahmani ) is a French director, actor, screenwriter, composer and film producer.
Life
Tony Gatlif was born in 1948 in what was then belonging to France Algeria. His father was Kabyle, his mother, Roma. Both cultures influenced him greatly and he was inspired to a large part of his films.
Beginning of the sixties left Gatlif Algeria and immigrated to France to take there after studying art acting lessons. About the acting and the theater finally Gatlif arrived at the film and dropped La Rage au Poing before his first screenplay. In 1975 he turned La Tête en ruine, his first work as a director.
His film exile won the Best Director Award at the International Film Festival of Cannes 2004.
