Tony Hateley

Tony Hateley (born 13 June 1941 in Derby, † February 1, 2014 in Preston, Lancashire ) was an English footballer.

Career

Hateley started his professional career at Notts County in 1958. Nottingham in the forward played five years and scored 77 league goals. In 1963 he moved to Birmingham at Aston Villa. In three years with the Villans he was 127 times used in league matches and scored 68 goals there. After these successful games, he was obliged in 1966 from Chelsea for a then-record sum of 100,000 pounds. Hateley had to replace the then injured Peter Osgood, what the Englishman could not succeed. His biggest problem for the Blues was that he was not fed with the flanks, he needed a strong head ball players. In June 1967, he was sold for 96,000 pounds at Liverpool. After that time with the Reds Hateley played one year at Coventry City and a year at Birmingham City. In 1970 he returned to his original club Notts County. In 1973 he changed the last time to a professional club. He was still playing for a year at Oldham Athletic, plus in 1974 briefly for the Boston Minutemen in the U.S..

His son is the former England national football team, and nunmehrige coach Mark Hateley
