The Toompea Castle or Castle Tallinn (Estonian: Toompea loss) is the name of a company founded by Danes in the 13th century, was built to the later, the city of Tallinn. Here also the Coming Reval had long their headquarters

A wooden fortress was built by the native Estonians probably in the 10th or 11th century AD to the present-day Tallinn Toompea. The oldest ( Finnish ) sources speak of the naming Kesoniemi, suggesting a settlement in the summer. Later, the Estonian name Lyndanisse is mentioned (probably " peninsula of Linda ").

In June 1219 the fortress of Danish crusaders under the leadership was taken King Waldemar II. In the battle of Lyndanisse a legend the future flag of Denmark, Dannebrog, the Danes should have promised a victory over the pagan Estonians.

After their military victory and the occupation of the region, the Danes called the place latin Toompea Castle, " Danes Castle ". The present name from a shortening of Tallinn Taani linn is an Estonian translation of this term (disputed ).

The Toompea Castle was further expanded in the following decades as a stone fortress. Probably around 1220, the first tower was built of stone. From 1227 to 1237 the castle was owned by the Livonian Order, who fortified it further. Some walls and towers of the castle on the Tallinn Toompea (now seat of the Estonian Parliament ) can still be seen, including the tower Langer Hermann (built 1360-1370 ).
