Top Spin (ride)

Top Spin called Kieputin in the Finnish theme park Linnanmaki in Helsinki

Top Spin Ride denotes a type that has been produced since 1990 by the HUSS Maschinenfabrik (now Huss Rides) from Bremen. Since then, he is frequently encountered in various versions as a transportable version at folk festivals and permanently installed in amusement parks.

The name Top Spin is derived from the type of lay topspin in tennis in which the ball after the blow in the air heavily revolves around its own axis.

Function

In Top Spin passengers sit in one in the standard version is about 10 meters wide, Gondola, which is suspended between two support arms swinging freely. The support arms are driven by electric motors and are mounted on the two lateral uprights wide. Compared to the gondola suspension counterweights are attached to the arms.

The gondola can be determined or resolved by a circle around the pivot point arranged pneumatic brakes. When the brake is heard for passengers and spectators a typical hiss. By locking the brakes, the car can roll over in maximum ride height. When releasing the brakes in certain driving positions and simultaneous rotation of the arms it comes to rollovers of the nacelle in its rotational axis. An operating program consists of different sequences of high driving, rocking and overturning of the passenger carrier.

With most top spins, there are water fountains in the front, with which the passengers may be wetted while driving, or being injected with at least until shortly before the body. Some stationary systems also employ fire effects.

The ride can be controlled either directly by the staff, or it's programmed automatic driving program. Especially in amusement parks is a solid program, the usual mode of operation, to ensure always the same, defined driving sequence. Experienced machine operator achieve with little skill several gondola flashovers in a row by first fix the gondola at its highest point and then turn after releasing the brake cable both side arms gradually in order to get as momentum for the next rollover.

The passengers from falling out of the seats by shoulder straps that close hydraulically controlled and determine secured. In addition, fixed another back between the legs of the bracket. Riders must be at least 10 years old as a rule, and have a height of at least 140 cm and maximum 195 cm. When driving relatively high G- forces occur by the rotation of the gondola in a narrow space, although only a speed of approximately 30 km / h is reached.

The standard version of the top spins ( also called Top Spin 1 ) the 1990 can accommodate 40 passengers in two rows and is 18 meters high. In the portable version, it takes an area of about 19 × 19 meters and a has a connected load of 160 kW. Characteristic of the Top Spin 1, the right and left mounted next to the masts columns that contain large water tanks. Since 1993 is also a smaller version called Top Spin 2, offered with 28 seats and 12 meters high. A larger version, the Giant Top Spin has room for 77 passengers in three rows of seats and is 20.75 meters high. This is only available as a stationary plant.

A special version is the extraordinary Suspended Top Spin, sit with the maximum of 38 passengers back to back and at the legs hang free while driving. This construction is so far only found four times around the world. The first in Europe was opened in May 2007 at Phantasialand as Talocan with Mexican theming. To be encountered is " The Crypt " from the American amusement park " Kings Dominion ". Here is also working with water and fire effects, but it turns out, the remaining panels.

Several other manufacturers have copied the concept and distribute similar rides under another name.

One of them was from the company Mondial and was located in Fort Fun Adventure Land. The so-called rollover differed in that the people sitting in the axial direction and one of the two support arms is beveled at the gondola. In addition, this variant had the ability to rotate, the two support arms independently.
