Torkopf

Torkopf seen from the west

The Torkopf is a 1,930 m high peak in the Allgäu Alps. Located just south of Windeck saddle (1751 m) and is subordinate to the Upper cemetery walls ( 2033 m).

Origin of the name

A first mention in 1693 and Thor head in an act of Wolfsegger archive. In Blasius Hueber Vorarlberg card is 1783 Thor as listed.

The name derives from the Torkopf could be its location. So he forms a north to the Upper cemetery walls pulling ridge a gate-like appearance. Even more striking is the Torerscheinung between Torkopf and Mitteleck in the east.

Ascent

On the Torkopf leads no marked path. All increases are partially exposed and require climbing experience, fear of heights and absolute sure-footedness in the craggy ground. The normal route runs from Windeck saddle on the west ridge and is specified with the difficulty II .
