Band History

Tormentor was founded in 1986 by Attila Csihar. The band performed between 1986 and 1990 in Hungary and published live on the two demos The Seventh Day of Doom (1987) and Anno Domini (1988). They played fast Thrash Metal which was from time to time supplemented by epic passages in the style of old Bathory; besides Bathory also Destruction was an influence of the band. The band played some gigs in Hungary, which went chaotic. It was possible for her at this time due to the prevailing communist system and the state censorship not to officially release the second demo as an album. About Tape Trading the music Tormentors, however, was known in the metal underground far beyond the country's borders. In 1990 Anno Domini yet appeared on the Hungarian underground label Evil Records as professional cassette version with color - printed cover (the famous devil with a silver tray and nuns head artwork ). This release contains a slightly different mix than the already known versions that were released on Nocturnal Art Productions (1995) and Saturnus Productions (2007) and the order of the title was a little changed and the title Anno Domini omitted entirely. This version is now coveted collectors' items by fans. In 1991, the band had to dissolve.

Csihar was able to establish contacts with the Norwegian black metal scene and sang on Mayhem's first studio album De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. The second demo Anno Domini was supposed to appear on Death Like Silence Productions, but it was not because of the murder of Øystein Aarseth it. About the contacts, however Csihar learned Tomas " Samoth " Haugen Thormodsæter of Emperor know, the Anno Domini finally published in 1995 as a fourth release on his fledgling label Nocturnal Art Productions. In addition to this publication, and the vocals on the new Mayhem album, the band was also known for a cover version: Dissection who covered the song Elizabeth Bathory, which deals with the so-called Blood Countess Erzsébet Báthory. In 2004, Csihar of this song on one of the first concerts of Dissection after release from Jon Nödtveidt the guest vocals.

1999 reanimated Csihar Tormentor with a new cast and released the album Recipe Ferrum! 777, which was released in 2001. With the wild Black Metal former days the album has to do only a little. The album was heavily influenced by the Hungarian folklore and contains only a few black metal elements. From the criticism, the work was panned. Since the release of the band is back on ice because Csihar is busy with his other projects and Mayhem.

Both demos were repeatedly re-issued as bootlegs. Fenriz of Darkthrone in 2004 used the song Elizabeth Bathory for his compilation Fenriz Presents ... The Best of Old- School Black Metal.
