Torsten Bréchôt

Torsten Brechot, born Torsten Oehmigen, ( born September 11, 1964 in Schwerin ) is a former German judoka. He won in 1988 for the GDR, the Olympic bronze medal in the light middleweight.

Career

Under his birth name Torsten Oehmigen the judoka won in 1981 at Spartakiade. In 1983 he was European Junior champion in the light middleweight division, the class up to 78 kg. After he had taken his wife's name, Torsten Brechot won the 1985 his first DDR titles. In the Judo World Championships 1985 in Seoul, he only lost in the final against the Japanese Nobutoshi Hikage. Then he had to interrupt his career because of various injuries. In 1988 came the judoka, who coached at SC Dynamo Hoppe garden under Dietmar Hötger, back into the limelight when he won his second East German champion. At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 he received the bronze medal, after losing the battle for the finals against the West German Frank Wieneke with a coca - rating. For winning the bronze medal he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.

1989 Brechot tried to climb into the 86 -pound class and won the Swedish Open. After being in this weight class party has become in the GDR championships in 1990, he ended his career. In 1991, he attempted a comeback in the all-German Judo Bundesliga at JC Rüsselsheim and finished 1992 in the 78 -kilogram class in third place at the German Championships.
