Torsten Stålhandske

Torsten Stålhandske ( in German literature often called Staalhansch; * 1594 in Porvoo, † April 21, 1644 in Haderslev ) was 1642 Swedish General and Commander of the Finnish cavalry ( called Hakkapeliitta ). He was the son of Torsten Svensson ( Stålhandske ) and Katarina Teet. His father died in the battle of Stångebro 1598th His mother then married to Major Robert Guthrie. This gave the young Torsten probably also to Patrick Ruthven.

Life

He began his career with Colonel Patrick Ruthven. 1626 he was a major in the regiment of Horn. The following year, he joined the cavalry of Åke Tott and became lieutenant-colonel in 1629. On September 17, 1631 he participated in the Battle of Breitenfeld in part and on April 15, 1632 he was at the Battle of Rain am Lech Colonel, further, he fought in the Battle of the Old Citadel and in Lützen. 1633, at the Battle of Hessian- Oldendorf he was wounded. 1635 he was appointed Major General and Johan Banér was assigned. In the Battle of Wittstock he could conquer 35 banner. Also in Chemnitz he could excel.

In 1640, he fought against Count Mansfeld in Bohemia. In 1642 he fought with Thorstenson at the Battle of Breitenfeld (1642 ) where he was severely wounded. After his recovery he became general of cavalry. In 1643 he fought back with Thorstenson in Bohemia. He was then treated with Thorstenson to the Danish theater of war. There he fought in Jutland and confiscated the library of the Bishop of Aarhus Morten Madsen ( 1596-1643 ). The books were in 1646 the foundation for the new library at the University of Turku. In Denmark, he was crucially involved in the Battle of Kolding. After the battle, but he was seriously ill and died.

He was a member of the Fruchtbringende company with the company name of " rejuvenating ".

Torsten Stålhandskes to have been small in stature and unusually strong. He should have prisoners greeted with a handshake and have them make the broken finger.

Family

In 1643 he married Christina Horn, daughter of his former commander Arvid Horn. She paid the tomb in the side chapel of the cathedral of Turku, where he was buried with her. The marriage remained childless.
