The Toscani ( singular: Toscano ) are originally known in Tuscany, Italy, manufactured cigars, their special design is based from hitzefermentiertem Kentucky tobacco on a long tradition that has its roots particularly in the Swiss region, but also in Austria and even Italy is.

History

The exact origin of Toscano is in the dark. Documented is only that the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Ferdinand III. , Had founded in 1818 a tobacco factory in Florence, which drove the Toscani. Some years earlier, said to have been soaked a larger amount of Kentucky tobacco during an electrical storm in the area around Florence one day and be fermented in the subsequent heat. Since you looked at this tobacco as lesser quality, you used it to it to turn cheap cigars, but very soon enjoyed great popularity among the population, which is why developed a regular production. Today the Toscani be of the Manifatture Sigaro Toscano SpA produced in Lucca and Cava de ' Tirreni. By 2004, tobacco processing was controlled by the Monopoli di Stato.

Production

In the actual sense of the Toscano is no cigar as the Kentucky used for them is a pipe tobacco. This goes through a special type of fermentation, at which it is moistened, among other things, and dried over a charcoal fire, causing a great deal of alkaloids ( nicotine) is created. This traditional Italian home-grown tobacco is used for the deposit, the binder, however, is mostly imported from the U.S.. In recent years, however, Toscani cigars have come onto the market, which were supplemented with tobaccos from other countries (such as the " Senesi "). The of stripped tobacco leaves are then processed wet, although not as common in the Caribbean cigars, first wound a binder to insert the tobacco and then the cover is rolled over it. The cover page of the Toscani is rigid enough to hold the insert tobacco, it is attached thereto with a flavourless gluten from corn starch. After manufacture the cigars are air-dried in a maturing stock, depending on the duration of maturation, different qualities arise. Most Toscani be machined or machine with a high proportion, but there are also completely hand- rolled specimens as the "originals" or "Il Moro ". All Toscani have a typical elliptical shape, which would be described in a Caribbean cigar as " Perfecto " and between 150 mm and 160 mm long. Deviations of a few millimeters are not uncommon and seem quite intentional. An exception in this case represents the Toscano "Il Moro ", which has an average length of 230 mm. Besides there are some varieties that are thus already been reduced by half ( " Toscanelli " ) and ready to smoke. They are also flavored with grappa, anise ( anice ) and Espresso ( caffé ), vanilla ( vaniglia ) and fondente (bitter chocolate) available.

Special

The Toscani are very strong spicy cigar with a high nicotine content. Traditionally, they are not smoked as a whole, but broken in the middle or cut. They are obtained under the category of so-called dry cigars, ie they must be different than the very delicate Caribbean tobacco are not stored moist. The Kentucky tobacco which is no longer hygroscopic according to the special fermentation, can be stored without loss of quality at room temperature for years.
