TOT (Thailand)

TOT Public Company Limited ( Thai: ที โอ ที ) is the national telephone and communications company in Thailand.

General

The TOT Public Company Limited was founded on February 24, 1954 and converted into a public limited company in 2002, former names were TOT Telephone Organization of Thailand and TOT Corporation Public Company Limited. The main business is the wired communication and telephony and fast Internet access such as ADSL. In recent years, the mobile telecommunications was marketed.

Company History

The beginning

The first use of a phone in Thailand began in the reign of King Rama V in 1881 with the first telephone connection from the capital Bangkok and the city of Samut Prakan southeast of Bangkok.

The Telephone Organization of Thailand was founded by the Thai government on 24 February 1954, is today a public company under the control of the Ministry of Information and Communication ( MICT ).

Privatization in 2002 and re-privatization in 2006

Under the government of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra (2001-2006), was begun TOT convert it into a private corporation, it should also be traded on the Stock Exchange of Thailand Stock Exchange of Thailand. These plans were halted after the military coup of 19 September 2006 by the government under the retired General Surayud Chulanont. Together with the CAT Telecom (formerly the Communications Authority of Thailand ) was combined in a TOT state Telekommunikationgsgesellschaft (TOT Thailand).
