Maria- Josepha - tower

The grave stone is 483 meters one of the highest mountains of the Erzgebirgsvorlandes in Saxony. It lies north of the Chemnitz district Gruena and south of Limbach- Oberfrohnaer district Pleißa. The only a few hundred meters away, the A 4 motorway here reaches its highest point on its course through Germany.

History

On the largely forested mountain an observation tower built in 1886 by Erzgebirgszweigverein Limbach, who bore the name Maria - Josepha - tower and had to be demolished in 1953 due to disrepair. In its place was later built a massive radio tower, which still exists today on the mountain top. Nearly a hundred meters away, was built in 1998 along the lines of the old tower a new, 30 -meter-high views scaffold that can be climbed free of charge and in good weather a comprehensive view of the Ore Mountains and its foothills offers.

Radio Tower

This is a so-called A- Tower, which in narrowband microwave network as a district radio headquarters of the party (SED ) used in the Karl- Marx-Stadt district. Today it is used only for radio links and mobile and digital radio ( DAB).
