Tough Mudder

Tough Mudder ( American pronunciation: [' tɐf ˌ mʌdɹ ] ) is an endurance running event series, try with the individual participants or teams to complete an approximately 16 -mile obstacle course through the mud, the test the mental and physical strength, teamwork and endurance of the participants should. In 2013, 53 events in the USA, Canada, UK, Australia and Germany are planned. Worldwide, around half a million people have participated in Tough Mudder - events in 2012.

History

Tough Mudder was founded in 2010 by the two Britons Will Dean and Guy Livingstone. Dean and Livingstone organized the first Tough Mudder - event on 2 May 2010 in Pennsylvania, USA, with 4,500 participants. The idea was to take place in UK Wolverhampton Tough Guy Race taken at the Will Dean ausforschte the concept. Two additional events were held in 2010 in California and New Jersey, with a further 14 events in 2011 in various U.S. states. For 2013, Tough Mudder has scheduled 53 events in the USA, UK, Australia, Canada and Germany.

Route

A typical Tough Mudder - path is 16-18 km long and contains 20-25 obstacles. The terrain varies from route to route; natural features to be installed on each host in the track design, which makes each location unique. So far, among others Farms, motocross racing and ski areas used as venues.

The obstacles used are different from track to track, although there are some striking obstacles that are used in almost every event. These include:

  • Arctic Enema: Participants jump into a pool filled with ice, dive under a fence through which runs through the basin, and pull on the other side out of the water.
  • Electroshock Therapy: About a mud field that participants must cross to reach the goal of hanging power lines. These are means of a electric fence under up to 10,000 volts.
  • Funky Monkey: Two up and down running climbing frames are mounted above a filled with ice cold water basin, in which participants fall into if they lose their footing. The frame is provided with a mixture of butter and mud to increase the difficulty further.
  • Everest: Participants run a highly rubbed with mud and grease quarterpipe.

In 2012, Tough Mudder Obstacle founded the Innovation Lab in New Jersey, USA, where the company designed new obstacles and tests.

World's Toughest Mudder

World's Toughest Mudder is the last event of each year of the Tough Mudder event - calendar. In contrast to the regular Tough Mudder events - World's Toughest Mudder is a 24 -hour race for men, women, and four-person teams. Participants must qualify for the event by completing a Tough Mudder - event during the year and submit an application to participate. World's Toughest Mudder 2012 was held in New Jersey, USA on November 17 and 18.
