Toussaint McCall

Toussaint McCall ( born 1934 in Monroe, Louisiana) is an American organist, songwriter and singer of rhythm and blues and soul.

Life and work

Toussaint McCall was known especially for his song Nothing Takes the Place of You ( 1967). It reached # 5 R & B charts and was covered later inter alia by Isaac Hayes on his album Black Moses (1971). Although he still presented more singles and an album on Ronn Records, he was unable to repeat that success. It took until 1969 continued to singles such as The Toussaint Shuffle, I Stand Accused, My Love Is A Guarantee or Baby You Got It for local record label on. In 1988 he had a cameo in the John Waters film Hairspray, in which he presented his old charts hit.
