Monroe is a city and county seat of Ouachita Parish in the north of the U.S. state of Louisiana. Monroe is situated on the east bank of the Ouachita River and forms with the located on the west bank city of West Monroe, the "Twin Cities of northeast Louisiana ."
In the neighborhood of Monroe are several of the oldest buildings in North America, Mounds from the Middle Archaic period. The localities Watson Brake south of the city and Frenchman's Bend north, are among the most complex systems of earthworks of this era.
From 1926 to 1941 the city was home to Delta Air Lines. In the east of the city of Monroe Regional Airport is located. The city is the seat of the successful company Duck Commander, which was founded and led by Phil Robertson. This later became known through the television series Duck Dynasty.
