Pat Williams (American football)

Patrick " Pat" Williams ( born October 24, 1972 in Monroe, Louisiana ) is a former American professional American football player at the position of the defensive tackles. He played for the Minnesota Vikings in the National Football League ( NFL).

Career

College

Williams attended the Texas A & M University, where due to poor academic performance, he was not allowed to play in his first year. In the following year he was only used in six games. In his last year he graduated from eleven games, eight of them from the beginning.

NFL

Pat Williams came in the 1997 NFL Draft, but was chosen by any team. Only later pledged him the Buffalo Bills as a free agent. He came in his debut year only to one single use. The next year Williams won his place in the team, but it took another three years until he was able to work out a regular place in the Bills. His first touchdown he scored after an interception against the Miami Dolphins in 2004. The Buffalo Bills did not extend his expiring contract after this season.

Before the 2005 season he moved, again as a free agent to the Minnesota Vikings. After a council by the former defensive coach of the Vikings, Mike Tomlin, Williams lost about seven pounds. With Kevin Williams, also defensive tackle, he was the strongest Vikings defense for years. 2006 was followed by the first election to the Pro Bowl, which he reached in the next two seasons.
