Tovarnik

Tovarnik is a municipality in eastern Croatia. It is located in the region of Syrmia, and is very close to the border with Serbia.

Geography

The exact geographical location of the municipality Tovarnik is 45 ° 9'53 " north latitude and 19 ° 9'6" east longitude. Administratively belongs to the municipality of Vukovar- Syrmia Tovarnik to ( kroat. Vukovarsko - srijemska županija ). Vukovar and Vinkovci are the two largest nearest towns in Croatia and Sid in neighboring Serbia. To Tovarnik include the eponymous village Tovarnik and Ilača.

Population and Religion

According to the 2011 census, the municipality has 2,775 inhabitants, of whom 1,916 live in Tovarnik and 859 in Ilača. History

Even at the time of the Roman Empire there was the settlement " Ulmo " at the site of today's Tovarnik. The first written mention of the name " Tovarnik » took place in the 14th century in a contract which gave Martin, son of Andrija Bans, his estate Tovarnik his second wife Klara. This contract was written on June 1, 1335.

Economy

Sports

In Tovarnik there are football clubs NK Hajduk Tovarnik and NK Sremac Ilača. NK Hajduk Tovarnik was founded in 1924. NK Sremac Ilača was founded in 1922 under the name of Croatia, but then renamed 20 years later in Sremac. From 1941 to 1991, the club was known under this name in 1991 and changed the name to Granicar he wore until 1998. Since 1998, the association is called again Sremac, has around 70 members and plays in the First League of the Vukovar- Syrmia County.
