Towns of the People's Republic of China

A large village (镇zhen ) is an administrative unit at the community level in the People's Republic of China. At this level, there are currently 40 446 units ( 31 December 2012), of which 19 881 large municipalities ( 49.15 %), which thus have the greatest proportion at this level. Large communities are the English town comparable.

The community level follows in the administrative division of the People's Republic of China at the county level (circles, banners, circles Autonomous, Autonomous Banner, cities, municipalities, etc.).

More and more municipalities (乡xiang ) are converted due to the increasing population and a certain degree of urbanization in the center of the settlement in " large municipalities ".
