Toynbee Hall

Toynbee Hall is the name of the first Neighbourhood and education center as part of the settlement movement. The institution was founded in 1884 by Samuel Augustus Barnett and his wife Henrietta in London's East End and still exists today. It was named after the British economist and social reformer Arnold Toynbee, who had died the year before the opening of the facility. Toynbee Hall was a model for other start-ups, particularly as the Hull House in Chicago, the Jane Addams built after a visit to London.

The historic Toynbee Hall is referred to in many representations as a university branch, because with their prospective graduates moved from higher social classes in the residential area of the poor, and there offering neighborhood assistance and training opportunities.
