Trail of Tears (Band)

Trail of Tears is a Norwegian gothic metal band that was founded in 1994 under the name of Natt. In 1997, the band changed due to a larger line- up changes and thereby incurred style change their name to the current version.

Band History

In April 1997, the newly renamed Trail of Tears When Silence Cries demo with three tracks took on the Danish Jailhouse Studio, through which they received a contract for two albums with the Dutch label DSFA Records. In November 1998, the debut album Disclosure in Red was released, the multiple extended tours - among other things, a European tour with Tristania, The Sins of Thy Beloved, Transylvania and Antichrisis - followed. After completion of the recordings for the second album Profoundemonium the singer Helena Iren Michaelsen was replaced because of differences by Cathrine Paulsen. The album was released in 2000 and was sold in Europe with the exception of the Benelux countries by Napalm Records. In the summer of the same year, the band appeared at several festivals, including the Wacken Open Air and Dynamo Open Air.

2001, the future was fixed at Napalm Records, by a treaty was signed over three albums. The third album was recorded in February 2002. Under the guidance of producer Terje Refsnes ( Tristania, Sirenia) was A New Dimension of Might. In 2003, Trail of Tears for the first time outside of Europe on tour - to Mexico. With Kjetil Nordhus a new singer was taken. Shortly after Catherine Paulsen left the band and was not replaced. In autumn 2004 it went with Therion and Tristania on a European tour, in which Goran Bomann ( Carpathian Forest ) helped out as a guitarist. 2005 appeared Freefall into Fear, which so far heaviest album.

During a Mexico tour in November 2006, there were problems, which resulted in four of the members left the band and they claimed to have ended. On November 30, Ronny Thorsen released a statement on the website that Trail of Tears would continue. The previously announced album would be released on time despite the already planned for the December 2006 European tour was canceled, however.

In January 2007, appeared with Existentia the fifth studio album by the band, which received very good reviews from leading fanzines. Then the band played their first North American tour, which led them through the U.S. and Canada. In summer 2008, the band appeared at renowned festivals such as the Wave Gothic Treffen and Metal Mania Open Air. In May 2009 the band released the album Bloodstained Endurance on the new members of the band were heard for the first time after three years before the band had to reorient itself.
