Trams in Schwerin

The tram Schwerin is the main contributor of public transport in Schwerin. Schwerin tram network today covers a distance 21 kilometers, on which run four lines. Forerunner of today's tram was a horse-drawn railway, which was opened in 1881. The tram is operated by the transport Schwerin GmbH.

History

1881 took the first horse-drawn tram Schwerin their operation on two routes. Just four years later, she was reinstated because Unreabilität. In 1906, drove the first bus in regular service. In the early 1970s broke the tram service to a new era. The old broad types Gotha and Reko were replaced from 1973 by the so-called Tatra cars. The last line travel of a Tatra train was held with the car 144-244 on 13 February 2004. The cars were sold to Daugavpils, Dnipropetrovsk, Almaty and Tula.

Possible network extensions

Occasionally, the integration of the relatively close to town extending railway lines will be discussed after Rehna Parchim and the Karlsruhe model.

According to the land use plan of the city of Schwerin following line extensions could be made: Hegelstraße - Consrade, Rahlstedter street - Lankower triangle, clinics large Medewege, Krebsförden - Bleicherufer - place youth. Sensibly, the 1.5 km long connecting Waldfriedhof - Krebsförden appears ( Seven Lakes Park), whose construction will not seriously pursued.

In summer 2007 the turning loop Bertha Klingberg Square to link the Federal Horticultural Show 2009 in Schwerin was completed.

In the years 2001 to 2003, in circulation since 1973 Tatra T3 cars were replaced by 30 low-floor articulated three-piece railcar type SN2001 from the Flexity Classic series from Bombardier.
