Tramways in Gorzów Wielkopolski

The tram Gorzów Wielkopolski operated since 1899 urban transport in the Polish city of Gorzów Wielkopolski ( German: Landsberg on the Warta River ).

Formation

Gorzów Wielkopolski once belonged to the Prussian Neumark and is now the largest city in the Lubusz Voivodship and the seat of the voivode appointed by the Polish central government for Lebus. It lies in the western part of Poland on the Warta River, approximately 80 km northeast of Frankfurt ( Oder) and 130 km north-west of Poznan.

When the city at the end of the 19th century had about 35,000 inhabitants, the city sought a modern transportation. The Helios Elektricitäts AG from Cologne on the Rhine founded on 16 June 1900, the electricity plant and tram AG Landsberg ( Warta ). This took the opportunity offered by the City of Landsberg at July 29, 1899 electric tram.

The first, built in standard gauge line ran from the state railway station on the square to the barracks in the north of the city with a short diversion to the Zanziner systems. The second route linking the 7th July 1904, market square with the Hopfenbruch in the east.

More than one million passengers were first promoted in fiscal year 1911. In 1914, the rail network was 6.6 km long and was sailed by twelve railcars and two sidecar.

The period of inflation after the First World War forced the society that no longer belonged since 1912 to the Helios Group to cease operation in 1921; until the year 1924, he could be resumed. There were two smaller new lines, one from the marketplace to the canal bridge in the south and on the other from the corner of Station Street to the Friedrich city in the west. Thus, the cross-shaped rail network had 8.1 km length.

In the 1930s, two lines were served:

  • Friedrichstadt - Marketplace - Hopfenbruch
  • Canal Bridge - Marketplace - Barracks / Zwanziner systems

From the station it was only after arriving railroad trains individual trips to the market place. The statistics for the year 1939 has made 15 railcars and three sidecar. These covered a total of 517,000 car kilometers. The number of passengers carried amounted to two million. In addition, three buses were available, which operated on two lines with a total length of six kilometers. The bus operation was opened on 23 January 1937.

Transition to the trolleybus

Because the city still needed an efficient public transport, but the renewal of the tram under the existing circumstances seemed impossible, the company decided in 1941 to introduce electric trolleybuses. The conversion of the overhead line equipment began in 1942 and was completed in June 1943. However, the hesitant delivery of vehicles ordered only allowed for a gradual absorption of the Obusverkehrs. This began in July 1943 with the eight -kilometer line 2 of the Friedrichstadt on Marketplace - Parade Square - IG Farben to the State Office.

As of February 1944, the line 1 tram replaced between the station and Hohenzollern place on Market Square and Parade Square ( 4.5 km ). Although a third distance from the marketplace was ready for Short Path over canal bridge, only few trolleybuses could be used here because of the car defect. Therefore, since July 1943 " officially" decommissioned tram drove continue to canal bridge.

The capital of the E-Werk and tram company was distributed to the last

  • Electric light and power systems AG, Berlin with 75% and the
  • Society for electricity mbH, Berlin with 25%.

When the Red Army on January 30, 1945 approached the city, the entire trolleybus and tram has ceased operations.

Catenary trucks

A curiosity of the Landsberger trolleybus operation represented an electric tractor, which moved into its current from the Obusfahrleitung. This catenary trucks coals were transported from the port on the Warta River to the E-Werk, to the gas works and the national institute. For a long time over a kilometer branch line was not created. This freight was only 1943 to 1945.

Reactivation of the tram

The new Polish administration took the city almost completely set tram operation gradually back into operation, especially as the rail network was still largely present in 1947 on a line from 1949 on two lines. The trolleybus vehicles were no longer used and discharged to the city of Poznan; the contact line has been restored for the tram service.

1955 City Transport Gorzow Wielkopolski ( Miejski Zakad Komunikacji w Gorzowie Wielkopolskim ) was constituted.

Over time, the former rail network has been extended to the following sections:

  • From the barracks after Dzierzynskiego (Hohenzollern Platz)
  • Of the Zechower road to Elektrownia ( State Research Center ) and Silwana.

Almost all double-track routes have been expanded and relocated in part to a new route. It was also the depot at the station, where a loop is created, abandoned and rebuilt at the end of about two kilometers to the west to Wieprzyce extended distance.

On the other hand, the branch lines were closed at the Hopfenbruch and the Zanziner systems; finally stopped the renovation has already begun the path from the marketplace over the canal bridge to Kobylogorska ( Short distance ). ( According Pharus map from the 1920s called this road " Kuburger road .")

In 1985, five tram lines were present:

However, the lines 4 and 5 are not wrong at the same time of day. In the 1990s, the number of lines has been reduced; In 1995 there were only three lines:

In addition to Polish trams former railcar tram Kassel be used since the early 1990s. Were taken Duewag - unit cars in set-up and two-way design. As in Gorzów Wielkopolski no bi-directional vehicles are needed in these cars, the doors of the driver's seat were closed on one side, extended at the rear end and to our own fittings provided with lockable doors. The originally equipped with metal signs boxes to display the line number and the travel destination have now been largely replaced by matrix displays in LED technology.

From late 2009 until the end of 2011 were the two lines 4 and 5 with single unclocked trips on weekdays back in operation, so the station was back on the tram network. On 2 January 2012, the 4 and 5 were liquidated again, since the subsidies were cut. The lines 1, 2 and 3 offer on weekdays a 15 -minute clock and on weekends a 20 -minute intervals. Through the line overlay on all route branches results in a combined cycle with about half the interval times.

The ticket machines in trams are only usable with Coins ( zloty ). Machines at bus stops are not set up.
