Transamerica Corporation

The Transamerica Corporation is a US-based financial services and insurance companies. It is 1956 and damage than the Bank of America was forced by the new legislation, to separate from the activities outside of the credit system. The company is based in San Francisco, the office building Transamerica Pyramid is one of the landmarks of the city.

In 1967, the United Artists and in 1968 was taken over the airline Trans International Airlines. The existing management team under Arthur Krim and Robert Benjamin remained in the film business, but after it came to disagreements between the owner Transamerica Corporation on the one hand and the management personnel of the United Artists on the other in 1978, took leave of this and founded the Orion Pictures Corporation. Under the new management, the production of the Western Heaven's Gate was decided. This film led by massive cost overruns and low Box office success to an unprecedented net loss of United Artists. Contrary to many fears of the flop, however, did not mean the bankruptcy of the film company United Artists, but caused displeasure to the owner and so in 1980 the sale of the subsidiary to Metro-Goldwyn- Mayer.

In July 1999, the company became the property of AEGON NV about. The Dutch company is one of the world's largest life insurance companies.
