Transit New Zealand

Transit New Zealand ( Māori: Aotearoa Ararau ) was a state-owned company in New Zealand, based in Wellington, the responsibility for the national roads, the state highways was responsible.

History

The company was founded on 1 October 1989 under the Transit New Zealand Act 1989 as a Crown Entity and subordinated to the Ministry of Transport (Ministry of Transport ).

The Transit New Zealand Authority, a body of Transit New Zealand dissolved the National Roads Board, which controlled the state highways, from. The National Roads Board in turn arose from the Main Highways Board, which was established on 1 April 1924. Not yet thinking of State Highways, it was already 1924, the task of planning boards, Konzepttionierung and construction to drive a national network of trunk roads ahead.

Nearly twenty years later, Land Transport New Zealand along with Transit New Zealand was transferred to the newly established on 1 August 2008 New Zealand Transport Agency.
