Treasure Houses of England
The Treasure Houses of England form a consortium for cultural heritage that was established in England in the early 1970s for nine of the most important, still in private hands so-called " Great Country Houses " ( stately homes ). Its main activity is in the fields of marketing and advertising in order to develop the property together as tourist attractions. Currently, the group consists of ten buildings. These are (together with its historical owners ):
- Beaulieu Palace House (Duke of Montagu, now owned by Lord Montagu of Beaulieu )
- Blenheim Palace (Duke of Marlborough )
- Burghley House (The Cecil family, now in the possession of Burghley House Preservation Trust )
- Castle Howard ( Earl of Carlisle, now owned by The Honorable Simon Howard)
- Chatsworth House (Duke of Devonshire )
- Harewood House ( Earl of Harewood )
- Hatfield House ( Marquesses of Salisbury )
- Holkham Hall ( Earl of Leicester)
- Leeds Castle ( now owned by the Leeds Castle Foundation)
- Woburn Abbey (Duke of Bedford )
