The Treskavica ( Serbian Cyrillic Трескавица ) is a belonging to the Dinaric mountain range in central Bosnia and Herzegovina, about 25 kilometers south of Sarajevo. Its highest peak - the 2086 m high Dokin Toranj - is the highest elevation in the capital region and the seventh- highest point in the country.

Location

The Treskavica massif is located southeast of Trnovo and northwest of Kalinovik and extends over a length of about 20 kilometers. It is connected to the north by the ridge of Hojta with the Bjelašnica; in the southeast is the massif into the plateau of Šivolje. In the east, the Rogoj the connection to Jahorina massif represents only the west is the Treskavica sharply defined and separated by up to 850 m deep valley of the river Lyuta the neighboring Visočica massif.

Vegetation

While the high plateau of the Karst Mountains is covered only sparsely, especially the eastern and southern foothills of the Treskavica are covered with the typical karst - scree - fir forest.

Tourism

The Treskavica is a popular destination for hikers. Its main peaks are from the north and northeast marked paths accessible. The most popular route is from Trnovo out past the three mountain lakes up to Dokin Toranj. That part of the south of the Treskavica Dokin Toranj however, was in the Bosnian war immediate battle area. Here large areas are still mined and can not be entered.
