Triana (Band)

Triana was a Spanish progressive rock band of the 1970s and early 1980s. Specialty of Andalusian band was the combination of the classic symphonic progressive rock with the native to Andalusia Flamenco. The three-member until the death of frontman Jesús de la Rosa Luque main cast of the band was usually supplemented with recordings and performances by guest musicians.

Biography

Motivation of the band was to create a connection from progressive rock and flamenco. As influences from progressive rock to the members were among these, especially the music of King Crimson and Vanilla Fudge Godfather. During the first three albums were developed on this basis an independent, first lyric, then quite hard and experimental styles. The later albums have, however, as with many bands of progressive rock in the early 1980s, a clear tendency for contemporary pop on.

Progressive phase

The debut album El Patio ( " the Court " ) was published in 1975 and was well received by the youth of a Spanish company that was looking for new direction after dictator Franco's death despite low marketing efforts. Two protruding songs from the album became established as an integral part of the repertoire of the band: Abre la puerta ( "Open the door " ) and En el lago ( " In The Lake "). The latter is an attempt at surrealist evocation of a LSD Tripps. The album is regarded as crucial to the Etablisierung an original Andalusian style of rock music, the rock Andaluz.

The release of the second album Hijos de agobio ( "Children of oppression " ) In 1977, the same year as the introduction of democratic elections in Spain. The lyrics of the album are accordingly penetrated by a newly burgeoning political zeitgeist. (→ transition in Spain)

With Sombra y luz ( "Shadows and Light" ), the band turned in 1978 a darker style than on the first two albums. In pieces such as Sombra y luz also jazz influences were taken.

Pop - phase

The following publications of the band are determined by a more commercial sound. Along with the trend towards strengthening of the electric guitar in the sound compared to the keyboards approached to be a style to which critics refer to as " Latinized Soft Rock ". As late to do the only number - one hit of the band, Tu frialdad apply ( "Your cold ") and Llegó el dia ( " The day came " ) from the last album recorded by the band to be the longest piece.

Jesús de la Rosa Luque died on October 14, 1983 in a car accident. His death marks the end of the creative activities of the original cast.

Afterlife

Eduardo Rodríguez Rodway began a short-lived solo career, while Juan José Palacios later a new cast of band aufstellte and the first compilation Triana una Historia, later released a new album under the name of Triana. On 22 July 2002 he died as a result of a ruptured aorta. The remaining members of the newer cast members still continue to occur under the name of Triana, much to the discomfort of the boarded supporters of the band and Rodríguez Rodways, which was prompted as a remaining member of the main cast to accuse this formation the enrichment of this name.
