Triangle Link

The Trekantsamband ( in German "Delta Connection" ) is a road link to the west coast of Norway between Bergen and Stavanger. It connects the island communities Stord and Bømlo with Sveio and thus the mainland.

The structure consists essentially of the two suspension bridges Stordabru and Bømlabru, the low bridge Spissøybru and the 7.8 km long undersea tunnel Bømlafjordtunnel whose deepest point is 260 m below sea level. The first two suspension bridges are among the largest suspension bridges in Norway ( Stordabru span of 677 m). With included the islands Spissøy, Nautøy and Føyno, which are thus also now connected to the mainland were. The Triangle Link was opened to traffic on 30 April 2001.

The Trekantsamband replaces the three ferry Valevåg - Skjersholmane, Valevåg - Mosterhamn and Sagvåg - Siggjarvåg and allowed a thinning line Skjersholmane - Utbjoa.

The entire building cost 1.814 billion Norwegian kroner, of which 476 million crowns fell to the tunnel. Funding was provided by the Norwegian government and by toll revenue. The checkpoint is located on the island Føyno; payment can be made in cash or electronically.

The Bømlafjordtunnel and Stordabru are part of the European Route 39, the main road link between Bergen and Stavanger. This first completed part of the Trekantsambandet already been released on 28 December 2000 for traffic.

The Trekantsamband cost end up being less than originally estimated. It was intended that the municipality Bømlo uses a portion of toll revenues for the local road construction. Now to have the neighboring municipalities objected to, so even this sum finally zugutekam of total financing.
