Trianthema portulacastra

Trianthema is a plant genus of the family of Mesembryanthemum plants ( Aizoaceae ). The botanical name of the genus is derived from the Greek words " τρία " ( tria ) for three and " άνςέμον " ( anthemon ) for flower thereof.

Description

The species of the genus Trianthema are annual to perennial plants whose shoots are sometimes woody at the base. The stalked leaves are unequal in size. The epidermis is more or less glabrous, papillose or hairy.

The flowers are single or in a more or less compact cymes. The 5- zipfeligen individual flowers have two bracts. Your perianth is fused at the base. There are 5 to many stamens present. The ovary has only one scar.

The fruits burst on a ring. They contain one or more triangular, kidney-shaped or curved black seeds.

Systematics and distribution

The genus Trianthema comes in dry subtropical to tropical areas in a broad belt from 40 degrees north to 40 degrees south latitude before. The plants often grow in salty places.

The first scientific description was published in 1753 by Carolus Linnaeus in Species Plantarum. Type species is Trianthema portulacastra. After Heidrun Hartmann Trianthema genus includes the following species:
