Trisha Donnelly

Trisha Donnelly ( born April 22, 1974 in Los Angeles ) is an American artist who works with various media such as photography, audio and video media, drawing, sculpture and performances.

Life

For artistic strategy of the artist it belongs to reveal little about her personal life. The constant biographical information are: Donnelly joined the University of California at Los Angeles in 1995 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from, at Yale University in 2000 she made her Master 's degree (MFA ). Since 2008, Donnelly teaches at the Art and Art Professions Department of the Steinhardt School at New York University. In 2012 she lived in San Francisco, California.

Work

Actions

The artist was short, ephemeral performances known that she calls demonstrations. In 2001, she disguised herself as a Napoleonic courier and rode through the evening Manhattan for Casey Kaplan Gallery in Chelsea, where she of a white horse down leaving a message: " Be still, and listen to me. I'm just a messenger. But I bring news from the destruction. If the word surrender is really necessary, as it should be for. [ ... ] The emperor has fallen, he puts his burden on your soul and mine, and I am hereby electrically. I am electrically. " An action and message that seemed unusual after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, mainly because the artist then turned her horse and disappeared into the night.

Sculpture

Against their volatile, intangible actions sets Dennelly in her sculptural work massive stone sculptures. It handles large marble panels which they grind into fragile, flat structures and in which it inscribes archaic characters. Marble blocks they hollowed out to the edge of their fragility and forms structures that are reminiscent of hot water radiators. In massive square limestone blocks they milled simple patterns and fragmentary character. The sculptural works it involves at exhibitions in sound and video installations.
