  • 6.2 German

Formation

The figure of Trixie Belden was created by the American author Julie Campbell, who was born in 1908 in Flushing (New York). However, the author did not write all 39 volumes, but only the Volumes 1 to 6 After the series was continued under the pseudonym Kathryn Kenny and written by several ghostwriters, as Campbell no longer continued the series and the publisher granted permission to continue. However, they reserved the right to the rights to the characters.

In Germany, only 22 Trixie Belden books were published in Franz Schneider Verlag, and in irregular order, contrary to the English editions. The last volume of " Trixie Belden - polluters on the trail " was published in 1986 as the Franz Schneider Verlag was purchased by the Egmont publishing house, which did not continue the series.

Description

Trixie, Klaus, Martin, Uli, Dinah, Brigitte and Dan belong to a club that calls itself the "robin " and has made it its mission to help or to raise money for charities other people. Besides, the club also solves the most puzzling cases that are usually discovered by Trixie and also solved. Trixie and her best friend Brigitte later want to start their own detective agency, " Belden Willer Detective Agency ".

Plot locations USA / Germany

In the original editions Trixie Belden and the other characters in Sleepy Side live on the Hudson River, a surreal place in the State of New York, the Julie Campbell created. For the German market Sleepy Side has been transformed into the fictional Lindenberg and Germany (probably Lower Saxony, as in Volume 9 of the Lüneburg Heath is mentioned ) installed. It stands to reason that one has the series Germanized, in order not to confuse the child reader with difficult, American names and places they difficult or impossible to pronounce and therefore can not properly understand.

Similar variations of English names and names in German can be seen among others in the Enid Blyton series Hanni and Nanni and Dolly, who, like the Trixie Belden - series, were published in Franz Schneider Verlag.

People

For the German market, a few names have been changed. In parentheses are the original names of the characters.

He had his initial difficulties with Trixie and her friends, she saved then but of a dangerous wild cat, which was the foundation for their friendship. Although he is a member of the Robins club, he appeared rarely in the books and is never there when the whole club out of town ( in the German editions ).

Trixie Belden - processing and equipment of the German volumes

Processing

The series was largely Germanized for the German market - both the names of the protagonists, as well as scenes of action and name names. The stories were modified so that the American origin is no longer visible. Here is only described (especially in Volume 6 and Volume 10 ) that the figures "travel" in the United States, but not in the country. In the first six volumes also a seamless transition of the seasons and the aging of the protagonist from the thirteenth was described in the fourteenth year; it in the subsequent volumes such transitions have been largely omitted.

In the German editing and translation, however, have crept into several volumes of errors that are not huge, but noticeable connoisseurs of the series immediately. For example, in Volume 11 was " Trixie Belden discovered the house in the bog " on the last page that the protagonist is celebrating her fifteenth birthday.

Quote page 142: "It was a beaming, but tired Trixie, who fell on the evening of her fifteenth birthday to bed."

In the sequel, however - " Trixie Belden and the dangerous good luck charm " - the protagonist is again in the fourteenth year, which remains, even if all the successor volumes.

The Irish Setter family of Belden, who has received the name " Tobby " for the German editions, ie in the two German editions suddenly " Reddy ", which in turn corresponds to the original American editions, because there is, the dog Reddy. These errors indicate a bad editing by the publisher, since the series has been hailed a great success and thus the publisher is set to fast Publications to obtain sales success in life. Another reason could also be bad publishing research, as the German band release does not coincide with the American and the German market between volumes have dropped.

That Trixie's brother Klaus and Uli age of 16 already have a driver's license and driving around the other club members in his own car, was for German relations in the 1970s and 1980s also unusual - and still is today. In these years we had 18 at the earliest with the license. Here was thus freely translated from American English, without worrying about it thought that a 16- year-old student in Germany can not possibly have the car driving license - now this is no earlier than 17. In the U.S., however even then it was possible to have a driver's license at 16. The license Fact is also an indication of a surface treatment.

With the German translation Furthermore, parts of the plot were completely gone, so that the German editions are reduced by at least one-fifth to one-quarter. Actions in the American original expenditure for the German market in part simply rewritten or alienated. If you read a German and an American edition in parallel, so you can clearly see that an accurate and unabridged translation of the original text comes out a more detailed and slightly different story. Therefore, fans of Trixie Belden is recommended to re-read the American editions. The friendly relationship between the protagonist and the character Uli (Jim Frayne ) is not as described, as it is actually in the original in the German editions.

Equipment

All cover illustrations were done by Kajo Biene, the interior illustrations were made with two exceptions by Werner Heymann. In the first volume " Trixie Belden and the Mystery of the country house " came the interior illustrations by Bärbel Skarabela. For the second volume of " Trixie Belden on the right track " drew the cover image illustrator Kajo Bierl the interior illustrations. For all editions a solid logo was used, which was usually to be found on the spine.

For all volumes, the inventor Julie Campbell was specified as an author, although she has not even written a majority of the volumes. Again, the publisher was apparently of the opinion not to confuse the reader with a new name. For the original editions, the publisher decided Western Publishing Company for the pseudonym Kathryn Kenny. Kathryn Kenny himself never existed; the name was merely a Autorenpseudonym that the publisher had invented. In Volumes 1 to 6, the inventor Julie Campbell is specified as an author, from Volume 7 Kathryn Kenny.

The cover image Illustrations by Michael Koelsch been made . The interior illustrations that are clearly reminiscent of the 1950s and 1960s due to the clothing and hairstyles of the protagonists, the vehicles and the room facilities were made by the illustrator Haris Petie. Why the series was discontinued after the fifteenth band, has not been previously published. One reason for the stop series may be too poor sales figures. The publisher, Random House, New York, has not responded to other publications. However, one can assume that the desired success of the reissues has failed.

Radio plays

From the Label Europa following books have been set to music, in order of German books:

The radio plays were produced in the late seventies to the early eighties. The speakers were well-known speakers such as Jürgen Thormann ( narrator ), Susanne Wulkow ( Trixie Belden ), Oliver Rohrbeck ( Martin ) and others. Why the series was discontinued after the tenth episode, is not mentioned; it is obvious, however, that the sales success of the radio plays did not match the books.

The series was set to music by another label, but was less successful. Here Trixie Belden was only then synchronized by Inga Nickolai of the actress Inez Günther. The other speakers were different from those of Europe.
