Trois-Rivières, Guadeloupe

Trois- Rivières is a municipality with 8735 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the French overseas department of Guadeloupe. The inhabitants Trois- Rivériens or Trois- Riverains call themselves.

Geography

The highest point is an extinct volcano, Volcan de la Citerne to 1150 m asl in the Massif de la Madeleine. There is also the 961 m high Piton de l' Herminier. A part of the National Park of Guadeloupe is located in Trois -Rivières. The name was derived from the three different coastal sections. These are the Rivière du trou au Chien, which is 7.4 km long and extends across to Cape Terre -Belle- Eau, which is the Rivière du Petit- carbet and the Rivière de Grand -Anse 7.2 km long and up Gourbeyre extends. Another neighboring community is Vieux -Fort. Trois- Rivières bordering the Caribbean Sea. The airport Pointe -à-Pitre is 65 km away.

Economy

Trois- Rivières is rich in agricultural areas where bananas, coffee, and tobacco are grown. The dried lava from past volcanic eruptions results in a fertile land.

History

A first mention dates back to 1640. Within the area there are many petroglyphs. In the 19th century the place was populated mainly by families.
