Tröllaskagi

Geographical location

Tröllaskagi is a peninsula in northern Iceland, northwest of the town of Akureyri.

The very mountainous peninsula is located west and east of the Eyjafjörður Skagafjordur. Many mountains reach altitudes above 1000 m. The ice age has left there many small glaciers. In addition to volcanoes Ice Age glaciers shaped the landscape by ausschliffen the narrow valleys.

Larger settlements are only here on the coast: there are the villages Hofsós, Siglufjörður, Ólafsfjörður and Dalvik.

The highest point is 1538 m high Kerling, the highest mountain in the coastal regions of Iceland. Also the home mountain of Akureyri, Súlur, is on Tröllaskagi.

The Icelandic Ring Road Hringvegur crosses the peninsula in the east-west direction, crossing the pass Öxnadalsheiði (540 m ) and the Öxnadalur.

Due to the northern location and the narrow valleys that keep the storms slightly and prevent the snow Gone is the snow situation on Tröllaskagi in the winter well and therefore are at the places Dalvik, Siglufjörður and Ólafsfjörður on Tröllaskagi with famous downhill ski areas of Iceland.
