Trolleybuses in Vancouver

The trolleybus Vancouver today is the only trolleybus operation in Canada, it was opened on 16 August 1948. It is operated by the Coast Mountain Bus Company, a subsidiary of the transport company Translink. Currently in Vancouver, at 13 electrically operated lines, the fleet currently consists of 262 units, including 74 articulated cars. The penultimate Canadian trolleybus operation in Edmonton, however, was shut down on May 2, 2009.

Rolling stock

2003 228 trolleybuses were ordered, including 188 solo and 40 articulated cars. Thus the entire fleet of 1982 was renewed in view of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. The large order went to the manufacturer New Flyer in Winnipeg, the electrical equipment supplied the German company Vossloh Kiepe to. The first new trolleybus is since 27 September 2005 at the regular service, the delivery was in 2008 - and two years ahead of schedule - concluded. There is also an option for a repeat order of 40 other vehicles.

As in other North American cities, it is possible for bicycles even when the trolleybuses Vancouver. For this purpose, each vehicle has a fold at the front mount for attaching a maximum of two bicycles, which is operated by the passenger himself.
