Trombone Shorty

Trombone Shorty, whose real name is Troy Andrews ( born January 2, 1986 in New Orleans, Louisiana ) is an American rhythm and blues and jazz musician (trombone, trumpet, vocals).

Biography

The grandfather of Troy Andrews was a successful blues musicians, his older brother, James took the road as a jazz trumpeter. Troy dominated the age of five and played the trombone and trumpet and drums. From his favorite instrument, the trombone (English Trombone ), and participating in parades in New Orleans at kindergarten age, it was given the nickname Trombone Shorty. He attended the prestigious New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts.

Early age of 16 he released his first album titled Swingin 'Gate, which was praised by critics. More releases followed, including several live recordings of his performances at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival zwischen 2004 and 2008. He also occurred in European jazz festivals and also made excursions into pop music. Among other things, he accompanied Lenny Kravitz in 2005 on its world tour and performed with U2 and Green Day.

2010 was followed by his breakthrough with his first release with the major sub-label Verve Records. The album went to # 3 Backatown the jazz charts in the U.S. and could even place in the German album charts. The album, which consists almost entirely of original compositions, plays trombone Trombone Shorty not only, but also many other instruments and can also be heard as a singer. Backatown was nominated at the Grammy Awards in 2011 for an award in the category Best Contemporary Jazz Album.

In November 2012 Trombone Shorty won for the first time the annual readers poll of Downbeat magazine in the category "Best Trombonist ".
