TrueMotion

On2 True Motion Video Compression is a series of video - codecs from On2 Technologies Inc..

History

According to the manufacturer, the development began in the early 1990s. The first versions of the codecs focusing mostly on the use of FMV sequences in computer games and were used accordingly. Therefore, they were especially designed for limited resource requirements. Even later versions of the codecs were compared to the current main competitors quite economical in computational requirements. Initially, there were only hardware implementations of the codec, which ran only on special hardware modules.

True Motion S

True Motion S ( also Truemotion 1.0) was released in late 1993, when the company was still called The Duck Corporation. Starting with True Motion -S ( "S" for "Software") Duck switched to pure software implementations running on general-purpose processors normal. The codec was used in the 1990s for FMV sequences in computer games the first CD -ROM-based game consoles ( fifth generation, such as the Sega Saturn) and also in some PC games (eg Batman Forever ).

True Motion - S data are usually used in AVI containers with the FourCC Codec ID DUCK (or PVEZ, may also TMOT ) in files with the extensions. Avi, am. , Or. Duc. The software library libavcodec from the FFmpeg project includes a free decoder for the format.

True Motion RT

( "RT" for " real time", German: real-time) was published in 1996. It was intended for real-time recording and processing of digital video material.

True Motion 2

Fourcc: TM20, for example, was used in Final Fantasy 7

True Motion VP3, VP4 True Motion

Fourcc: VP30, VP31, VP32; VP40

VP3 is optimized for streaming at low bit codec. libavcodec is a custom decoder for the format. The code base of VP3.2 is the basis of the (patent ) free Theora codec the Xiph.Org Foundation dar.

The Paul Wilkins (Cambridge, UK) was founded Metavisual company was acquired by On2 VP3 to bring to the market. On the first June 2000 was version 3.1, which introduced a new bitstream format, on August 16, version 3.2. End of 2001, the release was announced as Free Software. In 2002, the codec was then passed along with the source code of the reference implementations of VP3 ( .2 ) and the related patents of On2 the Free Software community and released as Free Software.

In April 2001, was published VP4, which brought only an improved encoder for the same bit stream format. On2 VP4 has been released for personal, non-commercial use.

True Motion VP5

Fourcc: VP50.

A preview version of VP5 was published on 21 February 2002; Production versions were available from the first of May. libavcodec is a custom decoder for the format. It is one of the Enhanced Versatile Disc ( EVD ) provided video codecs.

True Motion VP6

VP6 was published in May 2003 and released in October 2003 for private, non-commercial use. He was made the default codec for Flash video.

True VP7

VP7 was released in March 2005; he is free to use for private purposes since July.

True Motion VP8
