Region

Tsernaoua (also: Tsernawa ) is a rural municipality in the department of Birni - N'Konni in Niger.

Geography

Tsernaoua is located at the junction of Great Landscape Sahel and Sudan to the southeast to the neighboring state of Nigeria. The neighboring communities in Niger are Birni - N'Konni the southwest, Allela in the west and Malbaza in the Northeast. The municipality is divided into 18 administrative villages and 34 hamlets. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village Tsernaoua.

The Forêt de classée Tsernaoua is a 2367 acre protected nature woodland area in the municipality of Tsernaoua.

History

The rural community Tsernaoua went as an administrative unit 2002 through the course of a nationwide administrative reform from the eastern part of the canton Birni - N'Konni.

Population

At the 2001 census Tsernaoua had 44 941 inhabitants. For the year 2010 60.553 inhabitants were calculated.

Policy

In the local elections in July 2004 Boubé Nomao ( PNDS - Tarayya ) was elected mayor.

Economy and infrastructure

In Tsernaoua the country's first commercial center for onions was opened in 2007. The rural community is located in a major for the onion -growing region. Other such centers have been created in Madaoua and Tamaské 2010. Tsernaoua is located on the National Road 1 Here branches off the National Road 29, which leads north over Badaguichiri to the regional capital of Tahoua.
