Xitsonga (also: Tsonga, Thonga, Shangaan ) is a Bantu language.

It is spoken by about four million people and is common in the Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces of South Africa and adjacent areas of Zimbabwe and southern Mozambique. About four percent of the South African population speak Xitsonga. The language is divided into the main dialects Ronga, Tonga, Tswa and Inhambe. There is no single standard language. Late 19th to early 20th century was a separate Verschriftung of Ronga, Tonga and Tswa in the Latin alphabet.
