Tugay Kerimoğlu (2013 )

Tugay Kerimoğlu ( born August 24, 1970 in Trabzon ) is a former Turkish football player and current coach.

Family and Childhood

Kerimoğlu came in the northeastern Turkish port city of Trabzon, the son of a bank clerk and a housewife on the world. His father played in addition to his normal activities and also football, had been active in Trabzon İdmanocağı, one of the four previous clubs of Trabzonspor. Thus began Kerimoğlu and whose older brother Tolgay Kerimoğlu in the junior section of the club Trabzonspor football. After 1984, the family had to move because of the work of the Father to Istanbul, Beşiktaş Istanbul Kerimoğlu completed only at a trial following which he was not included in the youth department. So he moved through the intervention of Ergun Gursoy, which is also derived from Trabzon, in the junior section of Galatasaray.

Career

Club football

Kerimoğlu 1984 Ergun Gursoy, the former board member, discovered and brought to the youth to Turkish giants Galatasaray. There he played until 1987. From this time he belonged to the senior squad under Jupp, outfitted. Tugay Kerimoğlu conspicuous by his excellent technique, his " eye for the players" and his game intelligence.

He denied in his twelve years with the Red Yellow numerous national and international games. He had considerable proportion of Galatasaray international success in the 1990s as well as the profits of the UEFA Cup. 52 European games he completed for Galatasaray.

After his move to Rangers in January 2000 Kerimoğlu was in the following year with the team Scottish champion and cup winner. In July 2001, Graeme Souness, his former club coach at Galatasaray took him for almost four million euros to Blackburn Rovers. By 2009, he was active there. With the Rovers he won the League Cup in 2002.

In 2009, he ended his career after 22 years of professional football.

National

Kerimoğlu played 94 international matches and scored eight goals for Turkey. In 2007 he resigned from the national team. At the time when he announced his resignation, he was capped player.

Kerimoğlu has participated in the European Football Championship in England in 1996 and at the 2000 European Championships in Belgium and the Netherlands. In the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea Kerimoğlu was one of the key players of the Turkish team. His greatest success with the national team of Turkey was the third place at the 2002 World Cup.

In 2007 he was nominated again for the national team for the game against Georgia.

On 5 June 2007 Tugay Kerimoğlu played in Dortmund against his farewell Brazil match in the Turkish national team. It was his 94th and last use.

Activity as a trainer

After his playing career Tugay Kerimoğlu returned to Turkey. In March 2010 he became director of the youth division of Galatasaray. From October 2010 he was an assistant coach at Galatasaray Istanbul; his contract ended in May 2012.

End of September 2013 Kerimoğlu returned back to Galatasaray. This time he assisted the Italian coach Roberto Mancini.

Others

  • He was in season 1992/93 captain of Galatasaray and was the youngest captain in the club's history. Kerimoğlu was considered one of the best all-round midfielder Turkey and earned the nickname Maestro. His personal love was the number 5, which he wore in all the teams for which he was active.

Private life

Tugay Kerimoğlu is married to a former basketball player of Galatasaray and has two children.
