Turbinicarpus alonsoi is a flowering plant in the genus Turbinicarpus from the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The specific epithet honors the Mexican explorer Alonso Garcia Luna.

Description

Turbinicarpus alonsoi grows individually with spherical bodies 6-9 cm in diameter and a little strong taproot. The flattened, triangular cusp, up to 1.5 inches long and 1.3 inches wide. The arising therefrom 3-5 flattened cardboard-like spines are gray with a darker tip. They are up to 2 inches long.

The magenta flowers are 2.5 to 3.8 inches long, and have diameters of 2 to 3 centimeters. The reddish to dark purple fruits are 1 inch long and reach a diameter of 0.5 centimeters.

Systematics, distribution and hazard

Turbinicarpus alonsoi is common in the Mexican state of Guanajuato. The first description was in 1996 by Charles Edward Glass ( 1934-1998 ) and Salvador Arias Montes.

Turbinicarpus alonsoi be listed in Annex I of the CITES Convention. In the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN as " Critically Endangered (CR ) ', ie classified threatened with extinction.
