Turkish Language Association
The Türk Dil Kurumu (TDK, German: " Institute for the Turkish Language" ) is an agency of the Republic of Turkey to reform the Turkish language. Head of the Institute is currently Şükrü Halûk Akalın.
History
The institute was founded in 1923 proclaimed the Republic of Turkey on July 12, 1932 under the presidency of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, under the name Türk Dili Tetkik Cemiyeti and received its present name in 1936. Co-founder was the ethnologist Hamit Zübeyir Koşay. As of 1934, the Armenian turkologist Agop Dilâçar was the first Secretary of the Institute and maintained this position up to his death. Since 1983, the Institute is part of the Atatürk Kültür, Dil ve Tarih Kurumu Yüksek ( "High Atatürk Institute of Culture, Language and History" ). Türk Dil Kurumu which was financed by a legacy of Ataturk. The Turkish language and the Turkish Historical Society were used in Atatürk Testament as the heirs of income.
Areas of activity
The main task of the Institute is the standardization, modernization and Turkification the language. For this purpose, it replaces words Arab, Persian or other origin by new creations that are based on the Turkish word stems. These are called Öztürkçe called ( " core Turkish "). In order to find suitable word stems, the company conducts extensive linguistic studies of various dialects and other Turkic languages . Results of linguistic research are different dictionaries. Became famous the dialect dictionary ( Derleme Sözlüğü ) and the historical dictionary taramas Dergisi. The words formed the basis for neologisms. These new creations were made generally known in the press. The main period of Turkish language reform was in the 1930s and 1940s and culminated in the nationalistic instrumentalization of pseudo-scientific "Sun Language Theory " ( güneş dil teorisi ) by Hermann Feodor Kvergić ( 1895-1948/49 ), after the Turkish language is one of the original languages .
In the presence Türk Dil Kurumu does not engage in active language. The Institute co-organizes the annual International Turkish Olympiads.
