Chronology of public transport in Sibiu

Intervals

There is no single clocking scheme. The lines run on weekdays in a variety of densities clock. Between 30 and 10 min intervals is all to be found (all 20, 15, 13, or 12 minutes). Since overlap on most routes several lines arise denser frequencies. Many lines offer until 22:00 at their tight daily cycles. Tram stops in the rush hour in 30 - min intervals, otherwise hourly. Start of operation is from Monday to Friday at 5:00, close of business shortly after 23:00.

However, for the weekend a considerably weaker offer with generally 30, 40 or 60 -min cycles (maximum range is a vormittäglicher 20 - min intervals on the line 17). Some lines also did not operate on weekends. Start of operation is 6:00, operating circuit already around 22:00. Between Saturday and Sunday traffic is not differentiated. A night traffic does not exist.

Reintroduction of the tram

After the first election of the mayor Klaus Johannis in 2000, the reintroduction of the tram was formulated as a long-term goal of the infrastructure planning of the city. Since the cost of this project would, however, with several hundred million euros have not been applied by the city alone, the plans were rejected again. 2008 was officially announced by the mayor's office that the tram plans would no longer be pursued. In the meantime, however, a significant rejuvenation of the bus fleet has taken place ( new vehicles of MAN) and the contact wires of the trolley buses were partially renewed. On 14 November 2009, the trolleybus traffic came to a halt.

Service improvements from 2008

As of May 2008, some offer extensions were made in the bus network. The city of Sibiu thus hopes more citizens to be able to move to switch to the local transport, as the private transport had (in addition to the already massive truck transit traffic) extremely expanded in the city since 2000. The Sibiu will be induced to leave their car at home and go by bus to the service or to go shopping. The commissioning of new routes within the project "Premium", wants to come closer to this Zeil mayor. The conditions in public transport should be improved so that these future covering a significantly larger share of the modal split of urban transport. In collaboration with a consulting firm Dresdner so-called premium lines have been developed that provide a much higher standard than the other lines. Since 1 May operate two new bus and a new trolley bus (A5 station - Schewisgasse - Golden Valley / Valea Aurie, A12 Zibinsmarkt - Station - Vasile Aron district or T2 Hippodrome - hospital district). In addition, retirees are carried free of charge since that date. On the two bus lines operate only new MAN and BMC buses. Between 5:30 to 22 clock, the line runs A5 in the 10 - to 12 -minute interval, the line A12 at 10- minute intervals, the T2 zwischen 5.50 und 22.10 clock every 15 minutes. As of May 5, a new express bus route between the airport and the train station was also introduced, whose travel time is directed (via Radu Stanca Theatre and International Bus Station in Neppendorf ) according to the arrival times of trains or the arrival and departure times of the aircraft.

In order to improve the quality of transport further, from October 2008, approximately 70 new stops shelters (including Lininenplan etc. ) should be built throughout the city. Of the more than 200 stops now 20 modern standards are properly equipped. Next 110 to follow.

S -Bahn Sibiu

Since 2006, private initiators, particularly on the part of German Business Club Transylvania, called for the introduction of an S- path in space Sibiu. This should result from Sibiu airport on Neppendorf, the Sibiu Central Station and on to Heltau. Another route would be available from the airport via the main railway station Freck. In one implementation of this transport system would be the first of its kind in Transylvania. However, the Sibiu managing a short - or medium-term realization is skeptical. Mayor Klaus Johannis had indicated that an S -Bahn system in the room Sibiu was a utopia whose realization could be at most in the long term, in the period after 2025, addressed. In any case, the city council would not be willing to support the project financially.

On the envisaged route - which is owned by the Romanian State Railway CFR - Test drives have already been carried out. An operation would be technically easily possible. The section Sibiu - Heltau is currently leased to a private company, which has now run line upgrade activities with a value of over € 100,000.
